The gingerbread house was modeled after First Lady Hillary Rodham's Clinton's childhood home in Park Ridge, Illinois, and included scenes that paid homage to the poem "'Twas the Night Before Christmas." This was the first time Mesier employed the technique of removing portions of the wall to insert interior scenes in the White House Gingerbread House.
