The White House Historical Association ('WHHA') respects the privacy of our users. Your access to, and use of the www.whitehousehistory.org/digital-library website (the 'Site')) is subject to the Terms of Use set forth at https://library.whitehousehistory.org/fotoweb/views/terms-and-conditions. WHHA has created this Privacy Policy to explain what information we gather from you when you visit our Site, how we may use this information, and the security approaches we use to protect your information. This Privacy Policy is incorporated and made part of WHHA’s Terms of Use for the Site.
By using the Site, you consent to the collection and use of your information by WHHA in accordance with this Privacy Policy. If we decide to change our Privacy Policy, we will post those changes on this page. Policy changes will apply to information collected after the date of the change.
For each visitor to our Site, our Web server automatically recognizes only the consumer's domain name, but not the e-mail address.
The Library collects and stores some personal information when users register with the website. To create an account, the Site requires a first name, last name and email address as well as a user-created password. The email address provided will serve as the username. To complete registration, users are required to submit the name of their organization (or mark 'personal' if none), their occupation and their zip code. This information is collected for the purpose of WHHA's demographic research. Our goal is to serve the entire United States and tracking zip codes of users allows us to formulate a picture of what areas are being underserved.
Additionally, during the registration process new users are asked whether they are members of the press. Media access to images is handled primarily through our Marketing and Communications department. Members of the press may receive special access to certain materials for select purposes.
We may collect aggregate information on the pages users access or visit, but we do not collect information on which pages individual users visit.
Users wishing to purchase a high-resolution image will be further required to provide their address and telephone number to generate an invoice and for internal record-keeping purposes, along with an explanation of the planned use of the images. When the purchase is approved, the user will receive the invoice including a link to a secure site for completion of online payment. Credit card information is not collected by WHHA. WHHA uses a secure online third-party service called WePay to process online payments. Users should examine the privacy policies of WePay directly with regard to financial information and security. Certain uses of images are subject to licensing restrictions. See https://www.whitehousehistory.org/press-room/rights-and-reproductions-guidelines for more information.
WHHA may use the information collected from users for the purposes of providing the services available through the Site, for research and analysis on user behavior, and to develop improvements to the Site or for other uses directly related to WHHA activities. During the performance of their duties, WHHA personnel who run and support the Site periodically gather information about the performance and use of the Site. WHHA staff may have access to personally identifiable information on users during the course of these tasks, but are prohibited from seeking out such information when it is not relevant to their duties, and are barred from disclosing such information except to other designated parties as part of their work responsibilities.
The personal information you have provided us with and information about your image order will not be shared with third parties other than to our third party invoice processor(s). Such third parties will not use or retain any such information other than to process your secure payment.
