The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) was a British Army line infantry regiment from 1881 until 2006 when it became the 3rd Battalion, Royal Regiment of Scotland. A tattoo was originally simply a type of military music, but the word has evolved to encompass the entire performance. Members of the Black Watch returned to the United States to participate in President Kennedy's funeral procession from the White House to the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle.
