    In this photograph, taken by Frank Wolfe on March 28, 1966 at the North Entrance, President Lyndon B. Johnson and First Lady Lady Bird Johnson greet Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi during a State Visit. Gandhi became Prime Minister on January 24, 1966 and was the first woman to serve as the leader of India. She made multiple visits to the United States during her two terms as Prime Minister. Immediately following her arrival, the Johnsons gifted the Prime Minister a silver tea service with the presidential seal, an alligator handbag, and two books in the Yellow Oval Room. The Prime Minister gifted the Johnsons two rugs, an embroidered saddle, and several books.
