This photograph of President Lyndon B. Johnson and his family opening Christmas presents in the Yellow Oval Room was taken by Jack E. Kightlinger on December 24, 1968. President Lyndon B. Johnson sits in a chair patting dog Yuki, flanked by First Lady Lady Bird Johnson and his daughter, Lynda Bird Johnson, who cradles her daughter Lucinda Desha Robb. Behind them, the president's daughter Luci crouches in front of a couch beside her son, Patrick Lyndon Nugent, who is opening a present. Other individuals can be seen in the background, including secretary Mary Rather, who stands near a Christmas tree. Although during early years of their administration the Johnson family celebrated Christmas at their Texas ranch, they celebrated Christmases in the Yellow Oval Room in 1967 and 1968.
In this photograph, taken on December 9, 1970, the Nixon family dogs pose in front of their dog house on the South Grounds for a holiday portrait. The presidential pooches sit beneath a Christmas tree at the entranceway of their dog house, flanked by wrapped packages and a Christmas tree. During the Richard M. Nixon administration, electrician and unofficial presidential kennel master Traphes Bryant often coordinated the three dogs for their traditional holiday portrait. Pictured here from left to right: King Timahoe, President Richard M. Nixon's Irish Setter; Vicki, a French Poodle that belonged to first daughter Julie Nixon Eisenhower; and Pasha, first daughter Tricia Nixon's Yorkshire Terrier.
This photograph was taken around February 1922. It shows a group of unidentified men in the West Garden, including some dressed in traditional American Indian attire and headdresses. Several people and a dog converse the West Terrace above. The dog is likely Laddie Boy, President Warren G. Harding's Airedale terrier. The West Garden was reimagined as a green theater for official ceremonies and rededicated as the Rose Garden during the John F. Kennedy administration.
This photograph was taken on December 9, 1985, during a press preview of the White House holiday decorations hosted by First Lady Nancy Reagan. Here, Mrs. Reagan holds her dog Rex and laughs during the presentation of the official White House Gingerbread House. The display was made by Assistant Executive Chef Hans Raffert and included figures based on the Hansel and Gretel fairytale and a pathway made of jelly beans, President Ronald Reagan's favorite treat. Raffert's A-frame style gingerbread houses were a traditional part of the White House holiday decorations from 1969-1991. Also pictured at the far left of this photograph is actor Larry Hagman, who accompanied Mrs. Reagan for the press preview dressed as Santa Claus.

This portrait of Vice President Dan Quayle and his family was taken on November 27, 1990. The vice president and his wife, Second Lady Marilyn T. This illustration is etched onto the top of a silver humidor, or cigar box, which was presented to President Herbert Hoover on March 3, 1933. Presented to Hoover during the final days of his administration, the humidor was given to the president by men who frequently joined him for Hoover Ball. Made by silversmiths Bailey, Banks and Biddle, the design for the lid of the case features a Hoover Ball court on the South Lawn, two of the president's dogs, and a southern view of the White House in the distance. Elsewhere on the silver case are the engraved names of the regular Hoover Ball players, including Dr. Joel Thompson Boone, Arthur A. Ballantine, Roy D. Chapin, Arthur Mastick Hyde, Ernest Lee Jahncke, William D. Mitchell, Walter H. Newton, Lawrence Richey, Harlan Fiske Stone, and Ray L. Wilbur. Incorporating aspects of volleyball, tennis, and medicine ball, Hoover Ball was a sport created especially for the president following a recommendation by White House physician Dr. Joel Thompson Boone that the president increase his physical activity.
