Blair House is located across Pennsylvania Avenue from the White House and is known as the President's Guest House. Visiting diplomats and dignitaries stay at Blair House while on official visits with the White House and is historically where the president-elect and first family reside prior to taking the oath of office. Anna Weatherly made the china used for the setting at a table in the Blair House library. The Queen chose to have her breakfast in the library instead of the many dining rooms in the Blair House complex.

This color photograph by Matthew D'Agostino is of a soup tureen in the Obama state service. The design, inspired by an 1806 service plate of Secretary of State James Madison is portrayed in white relief above the fluted Kailua Blue and gold trim. This plate is a representation of First Lady Michelle Obama's desire to incorporate an old, historic style with modern design. When speaking with the culinary staff, Mrs. Obama was made aware of the chefs' difficulty with serving soup at State Dinners past because of a lack of the proper service ware. Because of this, Mrs. Obama included the tureen as a practical application previously unknown to State Dinners.
