This landscape looks across the Platte River to a wide valley and expansive mountain range. A small village of American Indians are settled near the river under the shade of trees with horses and the traditional tipis. Whittredge was an American painter who became known for his landscapes of the Great Plains and the west. Two of his paintings are in the White House Collection.
