    This painting was done by American artist Robert Henri. Henri painted the little girl named Patience, while vacationing with Henri and his wife, Marjorie, joined George Bellows and his family for the summer in Ogunquit, Maine. She poses with flowers behind her, and her large, dark eyes stand out above her light gown, while her dark hair melds into the forest green background. Henri was a leading figure in the Ashcan school of realism and an influential teacher of art.

    This still life done was done by Martin Johnson Heade around 1903.     This watercolor of a branch of dogwood blooms is by First Lady Caroline Lavinia Scott Harrison, wife of President Benjamin Harrison. As First Lady, Mrs. Harrison promoted the role of women in the arts and helped inventory, survey, and establish the White House china and the fine arts collection. She also acquired several paintings for the collection during her tenure.

    This still life of a vase of flowers by Severin Roesen was completed ca. 1851-52. In the painting, a large, ornate bouquet of flowers sits in a glass vase on a tabletop. At the base of the vase is a bird's nest with three small, blue eggs inside. The German-born Roesen immigrated to the United States in 1848 and was a prolific painter of still lifes such as this one. Three of his still lifes are in the White House Collection. This one was acquired for the White House Collection by the White House Historical Association in 1976.

The titular large, blue vase sits upon the tabletop, with the woman's hand carefully cupping the vase's rim. Reid was born in Massachusetts, and is also known for his murals, which are in the Library of Congress and the State House in Boston.
