This photograph of President Dwight D. Eisenhower, staff, and Dzimbo, a four-hundred and forty pound baby elephant, was taken on October 12, 1959 in the Rose Garden by Abbie Rowe of the National Park Service. Dzimbo was gifted to the president by the French colonies in west-central Africa, and was taken to live at the National Zoo.
